Hi, I’m Kerry Nelson, a Social Media Producer and Editor living in Los Angeles. I’ve been working in social media for over 9 years, primarily in sports media and entertainment.
When I’m not working in sports, I’m obsessively watching them, reading about them and wondering to myself how many years sports have taken off my life (I have a penchant for picking teams that are full of promise, fun to watch, but rarely ever win).
I compulsively root for the underdogs and actively root against teams that win all the time.
When my head and heart need a break from sports, I’m likely doing one of the following:
(1) Reading. For the last 2 years, I’ve been doing my best Andrew Luck impression and have been recommending books to everyone around me, whether they’ve asked for a book recommendation or not. Unlike Andrew, people did not sign up for my book club. I’m not a book purist (audiobooks allow me to multi-task and I will not apologize for it). If, on the rare occasion, I’m reading non-fiction, it’s safe to bet that I’m simultaneously reading fiction.
(2) Listening to music. I’ll listen to just about anything, especially if it was made over 5 years ago. I spend an absurd amount of my free time making themed playlists (Ask me about my COVID-19 playlist, if you dare). Yes, I am one of those people who thinks Rihanna JUST MIGHT make another album. Kids get to believe in Santa, I get to believe in the potential of a follow-up to ANTI.
(3) Watching movies and TV. I love storytelling and diving into another world, especially ones that would stress me out IRL. The psychology of the human condition is insanely fascinating to me and nothing gets to the bottom of that quite like seeing a character go through the trials and tribulations of life. Like anyone working in social media, I’m VERY diligent about seeing things as they come out because I have intense FOMO when I’m scrolling through social and I don’t get a movie and TV reference. Also, it’s the only way to avoid spoilers in this industry.
4) Getting Outside. Something has to counteract the amount of time I stare at a screen. Hiking and going on impromptu adventures is one of the few things in my life that makes my weekly screen time reports somewhat less embarrassing. Living in LA has its perks.
5) Exploring LA’s Restaurants and Coffee Shops: If you want in on the shared note, lmk.
